Seven times fallen, eight times standing
I recently learned about the Japanese philosophy of nana korobi ya oki (七転び八起き), literally translated as seven times fallen, eight times standing. Every time you get knocked down, get up and keep going. It's the kind of never give up attitude I have needed recently.

We're all a little bit Pippin
There's a part of the Lord of the Rings trilogy where Pippin discovers a palantír at the ruins of Isengard and can't help but sneak a peek at it later that night after Gandalf confiscates it. As you might remember, his actions have severe consequences.
As I was watching that scene not that long ago, it struck me as very true of real life as well. We all have our own kinds of palantíri in our life that we seem unable to resist. Things that may gnaw at us and get the better of our curiosity until we act on those feelings, usually leading us places we wish we hadn't gone.
We're all a little bit Pippin, in our own way.

The internet used to be a place
The internet used to be a place. A place you would visit. We had rooms or corners dedicated to them. When you left those spaces, you left the internet.
I like to wonder what it would be like if we treated the internet like that again.

Are you still checking this?
Just making sure the one person that checks this website is paying attention. I have a CMS set up now.

When one door closes, another door opens.
So the saying goes. My personal experience has been a little different, however. Sometimes I see a closed door and assume it's locked, but I haven't even bothered to try the handle.

Not all who wander are lost...
But just because you are wandering doesn't mean you aren't lost.

If we were in a zombie apocalypse, what skills would you bring?
A coworker posed this question recently. Some had outdoorsman skills or other relevant knowledge. I mean, I could probably make a website, but I'm still trying to figure out how that adds to the group.

Don't be afraid to mix your cereal
As a lover of cereal, I have many times found myself in a position where the rest of a box of cereal isn't enough for one bowl. So I add a little bit of the new box to the bowl, regardless of whether it's the same kind. Sacrilegious, you might say. But it can lead to unique taste combinations you wouldn't have thought were good.
A little Krave with your Cinnamon Toast Crunch. Some Apple Jacks with your Lucky Charms (or Marshmallow Mateys if you prefer that superior Malt-O-Meal experience).
Next time you find yourself between cereals, try mixing things up. You might get a dud flavor combo, or find something that becomes your new favorite thing.
